We live in a circus

Life is like a circus. We are often tricked, betrayed, lied to, applauded, thanked, appreciated, and entertained by life. I would love to say life is simple. But I think a simple life is a boring life. I hate things that feel bland, or too boring. If I can’t enjoy the adventure that I can’t enjoy the ride. One of my favorite stories that have a crazy twist to it is Alice in Wonderland. The entire story is trippy and talks about madness. However, my favorite twist about the story is Alice in Madness. It takes a darker approach the story and adds a depth to it that didn’t exist before. This story is in the form of a game done by American McGee. But alas, the ideal characters from it can really portray particular parts about life.

“Ah, Alice. We can’t go home again. No surprise really. Only a very few find the way, and most of them don’t recognize it when they do. Delusions, too, die hard with memory. Only the savage regard the endurance of pain as the measure of worth. Forgetting pain is convenient, remembering it: agonizing. But recovering the truth is worth the suffering and our Wonderland, though damaged, is safe in memory… for now.”-Alice In Madness-American McGee

How this story differs from original Alice in Wonderland

The game takes place eleven years after a terrific fire stripped Alice of her home, and left her mind scarred. It’s no wonder Alice goes mad during this game. The idea that a person can get scared enough to be driven insane by a fire is very real. Our life is hit with so many unpredictable events that fire could be the scariest due to how close we are to death. I know that the craziest part of my life was when I was little and had to consistently fight between mom and dad. ( I chose mom of course. But as a child, I imagined my father was a dragon, and my mother was a knight fighting for justice.) Anyways, after Alice’s house burned down she was placed into an insane asylum. ( Funny that we never see the idea of an insane asylum in any of the Alice stories or movies out.) She was slipping into insanity more and more as the Fantasy world Wonderland took over. This is a huge obstruction from original Alice which pertains to Alice tripping through a rabbit hole.

“Everything’s a nail, is it, Miss Hammerhead? First it was your search, freighted with fear and fragmented memories. Now it’s the train! Never time for tea. While your brain’s on holiday, we’re ruined! Now we’re all mad here and that’s a good excuse for going to hell in a teapot, but not for forgetting what your senses saw.”Alice In Madness-American McGee

In her absence, Wonderland suffers as the beautiful place becomes grim and scary. The entirety of Wonderland is out of order, and crazy. But in original Alice stories, there are only slight obstructions in the tale. The new movie portrays Mad Hatter has gone crazy. But Alice is not crazy.

What we can garner from Alice
Alice is not supposed to be sane. Nowhere in any of the stories do I see the impression of a sane person. I believe she reveals that we were born to hold a little imagination. I think that the circus of our lives should be met with creativity and imagination. It should be ridden with riddles and fun. I’m an avid believer in crazy. If life is not crazy, it’s not worth. Live your life like a circus and you will never bore a day.

“Make your survival mean something, or we are all doomed!”Alice In Madness-American McGee
